  • It has Manual Controls quite similar to professional cameras.
  • It can record high-quality videos better than the native camera app... though I think the video quality is already very good from my Samsung Galaxy S10

How to connect Filmic Pro to Zhiyun Smooth 4

  1. Insert and balance the phone on the gimbal. 
  2. Ensure Bluetooth is activated and not paired with other devices. 
  3. Turn on Smooth 4.
  4. Activate Filmic Pro 
  5. Go to the Settings menu. 
  6. Select Hardware.
  7. Turn on Zhiyun Smooth 4.  
Now that the devices are connected, let's set up Filmic Pro for the shoot.

How to set up Filmic Pro with Zhiyun Smooth 4

Enter the Settings menu.
  1. Set the Resolution.
  2. Set the Frame Rate. 
  3. Set Audio. 
  4. Turn on Grid. 
  5. Select the Camera.
Exit the Setting menu and explore the 3 shooting modes.

How to use Filmic Pro 3 Shooting Modes

There are 3 shooting modes in Filmic Pro. Choose a shooting Shooting Mode by pressing the center button.
  1. Reticle mode - adjusting, locking the exposure, and focus.
  2. Auto mode - adjusting, locking the exposure, and focus.
  3. Manual mode - adjusting exposure and focus, focus pulling.
Basically, the Hand Wheel is for manually adjusting exposure and the Thumb Wheel formanually adjustin focus.

Other Features of Filmic Pro + Zhiyun Smooth 4  

  1. Display Button - Live analytics - Zebra and Focus Peaking.
  2. Target Button - Change Hand Wheel to Zoom control
  3. Camera Button - Toggles Selfie and Main camera.
  4. Record Button - for recording.
  5. Playback Button - for playing back.

Pros and Cons of Filmic Pro + Zhiyun Smooth 4

  • Pros - Adjust exposure, focus and zoom manually without touching the screen.
  • Cons - I cannot do object tracking, face tracking, motion timelapse, spin rotate.

  • Histogram - Tap the time code counter.

  • Pros and cons...  
    • I like to lock white-balance first followed by the exposure. I will leave the focus in auto mode in the center.

    • I don't like how I have to go into the settings to the change camera and this is where the open camera is better. 

    • I like the histogram to ensure my exposure is good. 

    • It remembers my white balance and exposure settings. 

    • Headphone monitoring is useful. 

    • Can't use the Bluetooth shutter remote control.
