What You’ll Need

  • A smartphone or camera to record your footage

  • The CapCut app (free on iOS and Android)

  • A creative mindset and a bit of patience!

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating the Giant Effect

Step 1: Capture the Background

Start by recording the scene without anyone in it. Find a location with a mountain and a bus (or any large object). Keep the camera steady to ensure your background is clean and consistent. This footage will serve as the base for your effect.

Step 2: Record Yourself as the Giant

Next, record yourself pretending to be a giant. Act out stepping over the mountain first, then over the bus. Make exaggerated movements to sell the scale—like lifting your leg high and stepping slowly. Ensure the camera angle matches the background shot for seamless editing.

Step 3: Start Editing in CapCut

Open CapCut and create a new project. Import your recordings by selecting them and tapping Add. Your main video (with you as the giant) will be the primary clip on the timeline.

Step 4: Set Up the Freeze Frame

Move the timeline to a frame showing only the bus and mountain (from your background footage). Apply a Freeze Frame to capture this moment. Then, add it as an Overlay on top of your main video. Stretch the Freeze Frame’s duration to cover the entire section where you’re stepping over the mountain and bus.

Step 5: Remove the Background

With the Freeze Frame selected, use the RemoveBG tool with Custom Removal. Choose the Brush tool and carefully paint over the mountain and everything below it. This isolates the background so your giant steps can appear in front of it.

Step 6: Edit the First Step Over the Mountain

Go to the frame where your first step crosses over the mountain. Split the Freeze Frame at this point. Apply RemoveBG and Custom Removal again, but this time select Erase and remove half of the mountain. This makes it look like your foot is stepping over part of the mountain.

Step 7: Complete the Mountain Step

Move to the frame of your second step over the mountain. Split the Freeze Frame again, apply RemoveBG and Custom Removal, and use the Erase tool to remove the other half of the mountain. Now, it looks like you’ve fully stepped over the mountain!

Step 8: Reveal the Bus Step

For your third step (over the bus), apply a Rectangle Mask to the Freeze Frame. Adjust the mask to reveal your foot as it steps over the bus, ensuring the background stays intact below.

Step 9: Finalize the Bus Step

At the frame of your fourth step (completing the bus step), Split the Freeze Frame and delete the remaining portion of it. This ensures the effect ends cleanly, with your giant steps fully revealed.

Watch the Magic Happen!

Preview your video in CapCut to ensure the transitions are smooth and the effect looks realistic. Adjust timings or masks as needed to perfect the illusion. Once you’re satisfied, export and share your masterpiece with the world!
